Here’s again a selection from bikecap.nl , and you can visit the website for even more bike fashion items :-)
When planning to accessorize your bike in Holland you’re give the choice what to do with the rear end of your bike. One option were the biker’s bags I wrote above last month, but in case you’d rather transport people than shopping on your bike, you can equip your bike with a special cushion ;-) Once in Delft I’ve seen bride and groom cycling to their wedding, and the bride was indeed sitting on a white cushion like that! Here’s again a selection from bikecap.nl , and you can visit the website for even more bike fashion items :-)

I've already showed you what you can attach to the front of your bikes - crates, baskets, etc - but this is not the end of the story for a Dutch bike. Once you have a crate fastened securely, you have to make sure that its contents stay in safely and do not get wet – it does rain quite a lot in Holland, after all. For this very purpose you need a bike crate cover – take a look below at a selection from the wide range offered by www.bikecap.nl.
The rear of your bike where you fasten the biker’s bags is not the only place on your bike where you can transport things. A well-equipped Dutch bike also has a crate or a basket fastened in front of it – perfect solution for transporting your bag, small shopping or your dog ;-) (I’m not kidding, there’s a special category of bike baskets for transporting dogs!). Here are a few cute examples, all taken from fietstas-online.nl website – visit it to browse through dozens of other possibilities. Here is the second post in the "accessorize your bike for Spring" series - after biker's bags come biker's caps. Basically it's a protective hood from a waterproof material which you put over your saddle to protect it form rain, bird poop and other "natural disasters" which can occur when you leave your bike parked outside ;-) And of course the Dutch ones have typical Dutch designs - lots of colours, lots of flowers, and an obligatory cow-version too, of course ;-) All these caps are from http://www.bikecap.nl - one of the best sites I know for bike fashion! I proclaim the biking season finally on!!! This past Wednesday and Thursday, encouraged by the warm temperatures outside and the promise of sun, I cycled to work – for the first time this year. And I loved it!!! The hundreds if not thousands of cheerfully yellow daffodils covering both sides of the cycling path definitely helped ;-) I was also torn between keeping my eyes on the path (you might not realize that the Hague-Westland cycling route is a bike equivalent of busy highway) and searching the water canals and fields for interesting birds. In the spirit of Spring, I decided my bike deserves a total makeover – I am planning on pimping it up with accessories which I think only the Dutch have. I'm considering ordering the bag shown on the photo above - it's cute, it's soooo Dutch and it's not too garish... And of course creative bike accessories is a perfect topic for a series of blog posts too - here comes Creative Cycling! So today we’re looking at the double “fietstassen”, i.e. bike bags which you fasten to the rear side of your bike. They are a great invention indeed – you can transport lots of stuff in them with no effort whatsoever – bags with shopping, potted plants, flowers or even your laptop! In the Netherlands the most common brands of bike bags include Bazil, New Look and Kitsch Kitchen – all of the designs below come from their website. Shops such as Kruidvat, Blokker or Hema also store usually short collections of lower quality bike bags – much cheaper, but equally colourful ;-) Check out their websites for even more attractive designs! |
